1 Stop is excited to welcome Anita Franklin to the team.

Anita has a Bachelor of Social Sciences and a Master of Social Work and is an AASW accredited social worker. She worked for 15 years in Beijing, China,where she founded a small centre working with a multi-disciplinary team providing support for children with special needs, learning, social, emotional and behavioural challenges, their families and their support networks. 

Anita has recently moved to Mount Gambier to have a better work-life balance and continue her practice. Anita is passionate about facilitatingopportunities for early intervention and healing for children experiencing emotional, psychosocial, behavioural and/or developmental difficulties using therapeutic play and creative arts. Her practice is child led, child and culturally sensitive and trauma informed. She works alongside children to explore ways to express themselves.

She specialises in working with children from three to 18, using play, daily activities, and creative arts therapeutically to
• promotesocial skills
• negotiate life transitions
• find strategies tomanage anxiety-related behaviours
• facilitaterelationship building skills
• promote emotional regulation
• work through challenging emotionsand fear of failure
• strengthen independence and resilience
• increase healthy self-esteem and self-awareness
• build effective communication skills
• develop life skills

Anita is also able to provide therapeutic support to parents and families adjusting to a disability diagnosis or feeling overwhelmed by their child’s struggles. She will be working at 1 Stop on Fridays, and is taking bookings now for sessions starting in January 2020.
